Global Connections For Students
The Fulbright Center will foster and coordinate partnerships among colleges and universities throughout the world by building institutional capacity for innovation and best practices. In this program, the Fulbright Center will partner with educational institutions to develop and strengthen cultural understanding by creating unique services that enrich participating institutions' student exchange, study abroad, and cultural immersion programs.
Colleges and universities may select one or more resources offered by the Fulbright Center, or work with the Center to design services that are tailored to the needs of individual partners, and to each partnership. Resources and services from the Center may include:
- A self-assessment tool that students, faculty, and parents can use together to evaluate a college or university's current exchange and study abroad programs;
- Course materials and teaching guides to enhance student exchange and study abroad programs, co-determined with each principal partner;
- Follow-up activities which help to deepen the experience, such as "Students Connect" - a student-to-student immersion project using interactive websites, instant messaging, and international telecommunications;
- Connections to the worldwide network of Fulbright program alumni, commissions and foundations;
- A Fulbright Center Tool Kit containing, for example, training modules designed to enrich travel abroad experiences. Initial components of this kit include a DVD documentary on the life and philosophy of J. William Fulbright, selected writings by J. William and Harriet Fulbright, and a navigation guide to the Fulbright papers;
- An inventory of best practices in study abroad programs, establishing standards for future partnerships.
The purpose of all the Fulbright Center's programs and activities is to connect people who are interested in sharing significant cultural immersion experiences or participating in institutional collaborations. The Fulbright Center will promote complementary activities offered by related organizations.
